A BRIEF WORD ON GROWTH “HACKING”
Something I’ve learned over the past year is that when it comes to truly growing your audience, community, readership—anything of value—there is no “hack”.
Are there ways to get more eyes on your content quickly? 100%.
But these are cheap eyeballs. They’ll go as quickly as they came.
To build something special, enduring AND valuable—you need to do things that don’t scale.
You need to engage.
You need to help others.
You need to show interest.
You need to ask questions.
You need to listen to answers.
You need to share your experiences and lessons.
Of course there are exceptions to the rule. Experts in their fields grow followings quickly by providing tremendous value in the form of sharing their knowledge, insight and experience. And that’s why they “blow up”.
I’m not an expert. I’m a layman. So I rely on my ability to build relationships to grow. It’s not the fastest way to build a house, but you know the foundation isn’t going to crack.
Take time this week to engage more (on Twitter or elsewhere).
Ask questions and reply to answers.
Stop looking for the get-rich-quick-scheme of growth.
Be you. Engage. Grow.

TWEET OF THE WEEK

I nabbed this quote from last week’s featured podcast episode with Adam Grant on The Jordan Harbinger Podcast. Some have pointed out that adding “sometimes” is a bit of a cop-out—but the tweet spurred some good conversation regardless.
