One of the best ways to grow your newsletter (and your audience) is to leverage Other People's Audiences.
I go over it a lot more in my free 1KS Roadmap email course.
The point is: you can have one conversation with one person and get in front of their whole audience. It's the ultimate 1-to-many leverage play, and it's why anyone launching a book, course—or any kind of product—does a round of media interviews.
Think about your newsletter the same way.
I was recently on two podcasts discussing newsletter growth and monetization—and sure enough, I saw noticeable spikes in subscriber rates:
And it wasn't a coincidence.
Neither of these podcasts get millions of monthly downloads (yet!)—but podcast appearances don't just mean you're reaching a podcast audience. You're tapping into their WHOLE online audience.
A *good* podcaster will promote their episodes with...
tweet(s) about the episode to the host's audience
a link and/or feature in the podcast's newsletter
a LinkedIn post to their audience
a featured blog post or Medium article (with a juicy backlink to your website for SEO!)
TikTok short-form clip appearances
YouTube shorts/highlights
a mention in any community space the podcaster may have
These numbers have the potential to be massive and could increase awareness for you and your brand exponentially—at a much faster scale than you can achieve on your own, for free.
So start pitching yourself to other podcasts. What are you waiting for?
And here are the two podcast appearances I teased earlier, if you're interested in listening :)
1) The Community Experience (a SPI podcast) with Jillian Benbow:
Leveraging Newsletters with Dylan Redekop of Growth Currency
We discuss:
→ Starting a newsletter from scratch
→ How to get your first subs without a huge audience
→ Why niching down sparks creativity
→ Monetization & finding sponsors
→ A newsletter model for community managers
→ Leveraging platforms to expand your reach
→ Overcoming initial roadblocks
2) The I Want To Know podcast with Josh Spector:
I Want To Know If I Should Start A Newsletter
Josh has a "reverse interview" style of a show where the guest asks him questions they want to know.
Here's what I asked:
1) Why shouldn't someone start a newsletter?
2) What's the fastest way to get 10,000 subscribers for your newsletter?
3) What should you consider when pricing newsletter ads?
