🚀 Knowledge UP↑ 0️⃣0️⃣3️⃣
I struggle with focus.
I joked about in last week’s edition of Knowledge UP↑, but even AS I TYPE THIS I’m distracted with…
→ 7 ‘pinned’ tabs open
→ 11 regular tabs open
→ 29 bookmarks in the bookmark bar
Why do we—assuming I’m not alone in this—do this to ourselves? And more importantly: what can we do about it?
Distraction is keeping us from achieving great things. Hell, it’s keeping some us from achieving average things.
A few ways to conquer distraction
→ The Tab Hoard folder. You have 731 tabs open because they’re too important to close. These tabs are constant distractions. Create a Tab Hoard folder in your bookmarks tab: any tab you have anxiety about closing—bookmark it in the Tab Hoard folder. The irony: I rarely review my Tab Hoard folder. It’s all about peace of mind and eliminating distraction.
→ Newsfeed Eradicator. This free Chrome extension will help anyone lacking the willpower to check out their Twitter, Facebook, or LinkedIn feeds regularly. Add it to Chrome, turn it on, keep it on.
→ Freedom.to (affiliate) If the first two strategies don’t work for you—pay a small monthly fee to block websites for chunks of time with Freedom. Includes personal customization options and applications for desktop AND smartphone. (Sign up to get the full experience AND some awesome added perks like 2 months of Skillshare FREE or 3 months FREE of Todoist!)
Your attention is valuable. Protect it.
